Performance Poetry Workshop in Bangalore

Everybody bring a poem!

And then let's get talking about how we can bring it to the stage.

The first part of this workshop will be dedicated to performance writing. We'll explore a few prompts and discuss some important ideas:
What literary devices work best? Do we inch a little closer to writing for theatre, or should we maintain our poetic position?

The second part will be ALL stage. We'll look at vocal exercises, tone, props and then do a group performance and feedback session.

The Beat of Beast in Delhi!

5pm, 10th November, Akshara Theatre, Delhi

6pm, 11th November, Akshara Theatre, Delhi

When Zainab, a maid, Arundhati, an NRI, and Freddi, an expat, all land on the Mumbai Central platform, they know they only want one thing: to make it big in this beast- breathing city. And if not big, at least to survive.

As their lives and work slowly entwine, they learn to ride the urban wave. Arundhati gets a job at an ad agency, Freddi later joins her, quashing her desires to write fiction, and Zainab becomes their help. But when Arundhati and Freddi's boss goes broke, Zainab's job too is placed perilously on the line. How can the three manage to alchemize their adversity into opportunity, or at the very least, refuge?

Three women's stories told through song, spoken word and a reckless sprinkling of satire.

There will also be a lovely chapbook on sale for the bargain price of 250 rupees, containing all the 'page' poems that didn't make it into the show.

The full-length poetry collection, The Beat of Beast, was shortlisted for The 'Great' Indian Poetry Collective and Eyewear Publishing's Melita Hulme prize.

Poetry Tuesdays

I will be performing at the longstanding Poetry Tuesdays and selling hot off the press prints of my new chapbook, The Beat of Beast!

Poetry Tuesdays completed 6 years this year and now we are on the 75th reading night this November!

When we started at a CCD in 2011, we had no idea we would come this far. And not this far in terms of time, nor this far in terms of how many people we have been able to reach, or the number of people we have gotten to Thane over the years! We think we have come a long way in building a family that we are very very proud of.

On the 7th of November, the 75th PT, we are commemorating this family. This evening is going to be a mix of the best of PT regulars and some new people who have never performed at PT!

25 performers take our very multilingual stage in a semi-curated lineup. We want you there to be part of the celebrations as audience, as supporters, as part of our PT family.

And guess what! We have a swank new venue for this special evening! The amazing people at G5A, Mahalaxmi, have graciously welcomed us to their very pretty place that serves delicious pizzas!
