The Gathering of The Storm

The Gathering of The Storm

I look to the point

Where sky meets sea,

Tangled in their jagged unity.

The air swells black

And its velvet growls

Make quiver the sea;

As it prowls the precipice

Of still calamity.

Overwhelmed

With awe of might;

I reach to touch

The shadow sleek

Of the panther’s throbbing belly.

***

My finger flashes white

In that war-lightning cry

As that instant hurls spears

Across the tear gashed sky.

It ricochets

That flash

Off my flesh and lungs

And ribs

Encage my heart

Inside my fear.

I my limbs my head my frame

Zap silver-quick,

Collapse

No pain.

***

I am extinguished as a flame.

The panther roars loud

His triumphant claim.
